Welcome to TomicaCollectors.com

Welcome to TomicaCollectors.com and #shuminotomica homepage. Here is my first Tomica Nissan Laurel 1970. I found it from my parents’ house 30 years later, when my older son was born. Since then, our diecast-life started. We collected 1,000+ MIJ Tomica before we moved to the UK. Then our collections were sold to other collectors, other than those Tomica played by my sons. Now kids are grown-up, so I will do the same with my parents – keeping their Tomica cars for their kids.

Recently, I traveled to Hong Kong. I met a few friends there and learnt modification and restoration might be interesting. In a plane going back to the UK, a memory was suddenly come up from deep inside of my brain. As soon as I arrived at the garage, I found 5 large cardboard boxes full of junk Tomica cars. So I immediately started restoration work…

In the boxes, I found two restoration works I made long time ago. I do not remember how I did it. It was restored in Gun-grey colour, because I used have gun-grey colour Honda cars. My dad bought me a Honda “Wonder” Civic in 1985, so I probably chose Tomica 17 Honda Civic for my first restoration work. At that time I was asked by my dad which car I would love to have, I also wanted a Toyota Supra. So did I.

Next challenge was to use Chameleon / MAZIORA / Candy / Flip colour for painting. Here are two MIJ Tomica cars – Tomica 35 Mitsubishi Pajero or Shorgun MK1 Short and Tomica 61 Toyota Hilux 40 Pickup Truck. Another challenge was macro photography. You can see macro photography used in these video which I think was very interesting experience.

I usually purchase Chameleon, Flip, Maziora color spray and pigments from eBay stores. It consists of a black background paint, a main flip paint, and clear court paint. There are 5-8 pairs available from blue/red to gold/green.

I think Macro lenses you probably need for 1/64 size diecast model cars are 10x, 15x, and 20x. I bought MOMAX brand lenses in Hong Kong for my iphone. It is sold as a range of sets with/without fish eye lens.

Hot Wheels’ wheels are very handy for modifying Tomica cars.  I found it was looking nicer when spacers were inserted. Because toy cars are manufactured for kids to roll cars smoothly, you find too much play in wheels on shafts or axles. I wanted to see Ford Focus RS sitting static with evenly stanced wheels and tyres. Some of Hot Wheels are slightly larger than Tomica’s wide wheels, but not too large, so it fits in Tomica 46 Honda Odyssey MK3 nicely.

Putting favorite registration number plates on modified models was next challenge. Because I live in the UK, my favorite number plate design is the UK one. If you look at the Honda Civic Country Video, you can see JDM import style registration number plate design. If you watch the Range Rover video, you can find the British domestic registration number plate design.
